Last week’s announcement (6.17.13) by President Machen of his proposed salary increases for faculty may have given the impression that those in the bargaining unit may not receive these. There is no question of that. However the amount and distribution of the increase is, by state law, a matter for negotiation, not for unilateral decision by the administration. The union’s negotiating team is working hard to get an agreement that is in the best interest of the faculty. We will also make sure that the salary increases are adequate and are distributed in a way that conforms to the criteria and procedures approved by the faculty in each unit, rather than by administration. We will keep you informed of the progress of negotiations on both these aspects of the salary negotiations currently under way.
