United Faculty of Florida, UF Chapter
In conjunction with the American Association of University Professors and faculty at campuses across the nation, the United Faculty of Florida-UF will participate in the National Day of Action for Higher Education for the Public Good on April 17 by holding a virtual teach-in on Academic Freedom, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and the Future of Higher Education in Florida on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, 5-6:30 pm. This teach-in will be conducted via Zoom.
UFF-UF’s teach-in will feature a series of speakers as well as the opportunity for dialog and coalition building. Teach-in topics include: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in building excellence in higher education; the recent removal of the UF Presidential Task Force Report on African American and Native American History from UF’s website; Florida Senate Bill SB 846, which discriminates against international students from seven countries and restricts international collaboration; the role of unions in defending the rights of students, faculty, and staff to learn free from state indoctrination; staff unionization efforts at UF; student activism and organizing at UF.
The American Association of University Professor’s National Day of Action for Higher Education on April 17th provides a nationwide platform for local struggles including job security and fair pay, the freedom to teach and learn, equity and racial justice, and democratic governance of public education for all.
